Perpetuating the Signature of Maestro S. Povilaitis

Date

2019.10.16

The general contractor Conresta, which was responsible for building the concert hall, has won a tender for the perpetuation of S. Povilaitis announced by Palanga Municipality. €35.8 thousand has been allocated for the implementation of the idea of two artists.

The signature of the maestro Stasys Povilaitis, who grew up and lived in Palanga, was the idea of the architect Gerda Antanaitytė and the artist Romas Klimavičius, the winners of the competition.

Above the entrance to the hall, an additional fragment will be attached to the round façade of the building. It will consist of a white plate 7 metres long, 1.2 metres high and 10 centimetres thick, with the letters engraved on it. The singer’s signature has been drilled to a depth of 8 centimetres, so it will be clearly visible from a distance.

The mayor of the city, Šarūnas Vaitkus, expressed his regret that the procedures took such a long time. After announcing the competition to perpetuate the memory of S. Povilaitis, almost 20 ideas were received, but they did not meet her expectations. As a result, the competition was held again. After selecting the idea of remembering S. Povilaitis with his signature, the concept had to be coordinated with the owners of the hall because it has been handed over to the concessionaires. Then, the technical details of amending this wall of the hall had to be resolved with the help of architects and contractors.
